LIMPING BUT ALIVE

The story of Jocob’s encounter with an Angel of God is phenomenal.  When he was thinking about what he was going to encounter with his brother Esau, he was deeply troubled. He needed help; help from a higher hand. When he wrestled with the Angel, he told him, ‘I will not let you go unless you bless me”  The interesting thing was that the encounter was one that was going to change him for life; it was one that will he will never positively recover from …But it left him limping! The important thing about this encounter is that he was limping but he was alive; he was limping but he was made whole.

It is better to be limping and alive than to be whole and bloated with pride. Pride kills, pride blinds, pride cripples. Yielding our all to God is the best way to be truly alive. Jacob was alone when he had this encounter. This shows that certain life changing events that take place in our lives happen to us singly not ‘we and our children’, ‘me and my friends’ or ‘me and my wife or husband’. It is a single turning point, a powerful encounter that positions us to reach unto greatness and then we can affect the lives of our friends and families and others around us. There are certain things you have to sort out with God alone; certain things relating to destiny and issues relating to character. They are the offshoots of every other important area of our lives. Though we might sometimes succeed in deceiving others in seeing a part of us that we want them to see, if we don’t sort out those very important areas of our lives, we may never have any generational impact because the unlimited access to the insights that abound in God will not alight upon us.

Starting the year as a yielded vessel unto God ensures that we come out as transformed people. Sometimes, so many people give God their Boys’ quarter and keep their duplex to themselves; full of skeletons in their cup boards. ( I hope you get what I mean here.) When God dealt with Jacob, he was already a prosperous person- a wealthy fellow but his character flaw of swindling was still clinging like a cloak to him. That needed to be dealt with for the Eagle in him to emerge. That encounter was going to remove the lid off his life and until he had it, certain things would still not be right with him. To some people, the flaw is pride… ‘I makwa ndi anyi bu?’ To some others, it is smoking;  … ‘Nna mehn…make I take this one last stick…’ Yes..! They secretly want to quit but they can’t. To yet another, it is lack of self control in issues relating to sex; they want to get hold of themselves in this prevailing secret weaknesses but it seems pretty hard. To yet another group; it is unforgiveness that keeps them locked up in their own little world. All these things can be dealt with under God.

Today, many people look good, beautiful, and friendly and with some impeccable charisma but when you look deeper, they carry a lot of junk in their trunk.  You don’t see it but it is there; they don’t confess it but they’re aware of its presence. This junk in the trunk is like what the bible refers to as white washed tombs; wonderful on the outside but stinking within. Really this seems to be the lot of many a human personality but it is also what everyone of us must make a conscious effort to correct. To get within ourselves and allow God to deal with every sundry weakness which no one but us knows- this is one sure way of becoming a better person- a person transformed by God and believe me, victory is sure when we genuinely come to Christ! If you find yourself caught in the web of the things I mentioned above, don’t give up and say … ‘afterall, everyone is doing it…’ Many yielded vessels have attained a higher level , transformed and yielded unto God…so fret not, victory is sure if you yield to God.

For me, I am a work in progress; a work in God’s hands. I am working on myself too, I am becoming a better man everyday and I am trusting God for I know he does not abandon his projects. I hope dear friends, that you will work on yourself and yield unto God for that needed transformation that will take you to the top of your world. I pray that our character can be transformed at the feet of the Lord in these beginning moments of the year. If it takes you limping to be made whole, good; but you will be better off limping and alive than bloated and confused with pride and sundry vices. Let us give God a chance today because He- the Potter is molding us into shape- even though it may be painful right now, he will not abandon you as an unfinished product.

May the hand of God transform us into a people worthy in character, noble in ideals and indefatigable in spirit, prepared for every good works!

I love you!

Remain Blessed and Motivated.

  1. Very true... Even when we don't realize how much we need to stretch either physically or mentally to achieve what we direly seek, sometimes God does stretch us himself. For any change to happen, there must be equal sacrifice and giving up some space from old way to accommodate it.
