Hello my people, it's been a pretty long time since I posted here. So today, I'm thinking about you, dear reader. I've missed you and I feel like sharing this with you; things I've been thinking about. You know sometimes, you want to see the end of all the trials in your life at a glance but still see them stare at you when you look in the mirror. Well, you're not alone in this. Trust your struggle. God is working things out for you.
Let me tell you a story.
Surrounded by towering soldiers of high repute, a young man
stood at the crossroads of destiny. David; this fine faced shepherd boy
stumbled upon a national assault upon his people; a defining contest where
older siblings and country folks were hiding under one another’s skin, rolling
their eyes and asking “who will go for us?”.
Who wan die?
For that fragile moment, fear turned men into boys and small
boys had that flash of opportunity to graduate into men if they had the slightest
courage to face Goliath.
You see, Goliath, Israel’s at-the-moment nightmare, is just
life. With its height of challenge and confrontation, it’s always calling men
for a fight. And too many are scared because they have no experience with small
victories. Too many depend on their strength and are failed too often. But real
men have back up. And they brag with the source of their confidence.
So David appeared on the stage, full of guts. “What shall be
given to the man who kills this uncircumcised philistine?”
But the
thing is this.
Something
had been giving him confidence.
It was his ANTECEDENTS.
The things
he had passed through, his previous
successes, the Trust he had in his God. He had faced many battles before he came face to face with Goliath. He had trekked in the forest, watched and slept in the midst of danger, guarded his flock and so on. The time he killed a Lion that came after his father’s flock, the biceps of his courage grew by one inch. And there was no announcement. The time he killed a bear, his fear was further drowned and his faith grew. And nobody printed a poster. No. Not even on CNN or BBC.

And when it
was time to finish off Goliath, he drew on his antecedents. He remembered how
he tore the Lion and the Bear, how God had assisted him in weightier matters
and he lunged forward towards the Giant. His siblings tried to shout him down
but it was too late. His antecedents were fluent in diverse tongues. Before a
blink, he had the giant’s head for a trophy!
But Today.
Many of us
have no story because we are afraid and needing a pat on the back too often. We
want to be spoon-fed at every point of our life. Instead of trusting our
struggle, we eat our dinner in the morning, fold our hands and have someone
sing us some lullaby of how great we could be. We then levitate in our minds and wonder why life is giving us a knockout.
The truth is
simple. The person you admire today as a medical doctor was once a medical
student and had cold chills about exams. The person you admire his
duplex today and attended his house warming was once a squatter. The person who
owns that company you work in was once jobless. The person driving in that
Mercedes Benz you love once trekked the streets climbing bikes. The Professor
you respect today once had a difficult moment as a student in school. The
author you love today once went up and down looking for publishers.
Be patient.
Trust the little things you’re doing today; the silent frustrations, the effort
you’re making, the ideas, the networking, the sleepless nights. Enlarge your
territory. Learn new strategies. Connect with people better than you.
Believe in
yourself and the God that makes small things great.
Those small
things you think do not matter will soon become matters arising.
And soon.
Very soon.
You will be
the next big thing happening.
You have
everything it takes to be outstanding.
Shine!
Excel! Be You!
